Mental Health Film 2023

Overview

For World Mental Health Day (theme: Reach Out), HZL wanted a film using its own employees to create real connection, not just awareness.

Through our deep-diving research, we found a key truth: mental health is often invisible—neither seen nor heard—so typical films risk feeling abstract or clinical.

We needed to make mental health tangible and human, voiced from within the organisation, not from outside experts.
NUGGET — Mental Health Personified.

Through our strategic planning, we wrote a single narrative voiceover—mental health speaking for itself—threaded through employees across sites and roles. We designed a safe, comfortable set culture so people could participate genuinely, not perform.
Pre-Production (added): Concept & Ideation, VO & Script Writing, Mood Board, Shot Listing, Scheduling, On-set Sensitivity & Support Plan.

The film became a felt journey of everyday overwhelm and small acts of kindness—closing with: “This World Mental Health Day, let’s celebrate the strength in human connection. Let’s just Reach Out.”
